Looking back and moving forward!
Share
It is that time of year when we start thinking back. I think so we can continue and move forward. SIX years ago, April 20th, 2020, we made a big decision to purchase this building. I dreamed of moving my tiny business into this building for over 15 years. We started the work and a year later on January 1, 2021 we opened the doors to the NEW White Owl Creek. It was a process and I have enjoyed every miniute! Of course I am still working on projects and probably always will, but looking at what we have done so far is truly amazing to me! Keeping White Owl on the map as 57792 has been the goal from the beginning and will alway be. Some of the improvements have been big some small but all steps in the right direction in preserving this building.
This also made me think about how far White Owl Creek Boutique has come since the beginning. I was trying to remember for sure when I ordered my first box. I remember asking my mom all the questions about business that I could think of! From a small salon in a house we moved from Sturgis, to a house remodel and build, to moving to the little yellow house, 5 trailer upgrades, to moving to its current and meant to be location! WOW! That is a lot over the years! Going to events to expand my customer base to getting the booth space I needed and wanted at the The Black Hills Stock Show And Rodeo to needing (and accepting) help along the way. From making some of my own items and inviting those who have talents of their own in, to making lifelong friends along the way.
It is humbling to think about all this. Looking ahead and seeing what can still be done and looking back to what I have accomplished (with so much help and support along the way) amazes me. I think of White Owl Creek Boutique as a destination. A place you make a point to go to. A suprise along HWY 34 that makes you want to come back to everytime you pass through. What I love the most is meeting the people. When I see them come through the door, or in my booth, remembering the first time they shopped with me, the events they were planning to attend, that special occasion they shared with me. This is why I love what I do. Is is always easy? NO! But can I see myself doing something else? Who knows!
So many projects so little time!
If you made it all the way to the bottom of this post, thank you! Thank you for being a part of the White Owl Creek Story! Here is to looking ahead and appreciating what was behind! I encourage you to make the trip, talk history with me, visit the store and remember what it looked like before and if you haven't had time YET to make the trip...DO IT! I will put the tea on!
