First Post Office In White Owl, SD

A Peek Inside the White Owl Store

A Peek Inside the White Owl Store

As we take a peek on the inside of the White Owl Store it is important to know the History that this building has. Parts of it have been around as long as March 2, 1893.  The town of Whiteowl  was how it was originally spelled from 1895-1905. Another interesting fact was it was also a different county, Scobey County, now Meade County.

The current building was built in 1903 or 1904.

These are our current boxes that we use today.

It has not been used as a store for many years.  There was an art gallery here.  The sister in law of the owner and Post Master Joyce Chord, was an artist and displayed many of her pieces here over the years.

Candy used to fill this display cabinet.

The floors are hard wood and there is a trap door to the crawl space below.  There have been some updates to this building since it was originally built and I hope that we can bring back much of that feel as we make progress on the project.
